Office Bearers

 

President

Dr Sam Motsuenyane was Executive President of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) from 1968 to 1992. During this period he fought for the rights of black business and was the recipient of the 1985 Free Market Award for his exceptional contributions to the cause of economic freedom in South Africa. He later served as the Leader of the House in the Senate and as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He was involved in the establishment of the Foundation has been a Council Member and Patron for many years.

Chairman

Dr Brian Benfield, founder and former Chairman of Clientéle Life Holdings Limited, is Visiting Professor (Insurance and Risk Management) at the University of the Witwatersrand. His academic qualifications include PMD (Harvard), ACII (Chartered Institute of Insurance (UK), PhD (Wits).

Executive Director

Leon Louw has been Executive Director of the Free Market Foundation since 1978 and has had a significant impact on policy-making in South Africa since joining the Foundation. He is a well-known public speaker and co-author of SA: The Solution and Let the People Govern.

Director

Eustace Davie became a Council Member of the Free Market Foundation in 1977 and a full time Director in 1981. He is a Chartered Accountant and is responsible for administration and research. His special interests are education, health, and fiscal and monetary policy.1

Director

Temba Nolutshungu joined the training division of the Free Market Foundation in 1989 and was appointed Director in 1990. He played a prominent role in the Black Consciousness Movement in his youth and was detained on two occasions. He was a Director of the V&A Waterfront.

Deputy Chairman

Ayanda Khumalo became a member of the Executive Committee and Council of the Free Market Foundation in 2002. He has extensive experience in financial management, auditing and corporate finance, with an interest in models of Economic Development for the developing world. Ayanda is a Chartered Accountant and has held executive positions in various commercial and professional entities in South Africa.
