The news that SAA needs another immediate bailout of R5 bn on top of the R20 bn already provided and a further R9.2 bn in 2018 to repay outstanding debt is an outrageous affront to the poorest in society who are bearing the brunt of the recent increase in VAT. Nearly R35 bn to keep rich people flying while the poor go without essential infrastructure and amenities. (See infographic below.)
