Violation of the Rule of Law gave SA the Guptas and Zuma corruption

Rex van Schalkwyk – Chairman of the FMF Rule of Law Board of Advisors and former judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa
13 June 2018
11h00 – 11h30 Registration (sandwiches, tea & coffee will be available)
11h30 – 13h30 Presentation & discussion
Free Market Foundation, Block 5 Bryanston Gate, 170 Curzon Road, Bryanston (opposite Sandton Medi-Clinic)

Former Judge Rex van Schalkwyk’s briefing will demonstrate:

  • The Rule of Law stands between a civilised society and tyranny.
  • State Capture happened because of a systematic violation of the Rule of Law.
  • In the absence of the Rule of Law, doors are wide open to arbitrary political action.

He will discuss recent FMF research that demonstrates that government and particularly Parliament have abandoned the founding values of the Constitution and show a systematic violation of the Rule of Law.

From 23 pieces of national legislation analysed, 21 were drafted with no apparent concern for the Rule of Law.

This is what happened in SA under Zuma. The absence of the Rule of Law enabled the Guptas to flourish.

It must not be allowed to happen again.
