President

Leon Louw has been active in diverse aspects of South African public life for over a generation. He is credited with having had a significant impact on the course of events in South Africa, especially regarding the extensive economic reforms that took place during the last two decades of apartheid, and the inclusion of the property rights clause in the constitution. With his wife, Frances Kendall, he was nominated thrice for the Nobel Peace Prize for proposals made in their book South Africa: The Solution. Leon is the President of the Free Market Foundation.

Honorary life vice president

Dr Sam Motsuenyane was Executive President of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC) from 1968 to 1992. During this period he fought for the rights of black business and was the recipient of the 1985 Free Market Award for his exceptional contributions to the cause of economic freedom in South Africa. He later served as the Leader of the House in the Senate and as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He was involved in the establishment of the Foundation has been a Council Member and Patron for many years.

Subcommittees, focus teams & consultants


The Foundation has ad hoc sub-committees and specialist Focus Teams, consisting of invited experts in their fields who co-operate in the formulation and implementation of policies and strategies in such areas as Energy, Health, Privatisation, Land and Agriculture. Additionally, we use the services of commissioned and volunteer specialist consultants.
