The FMF is an independent, non-profit, public benefit organisation, created in 1975 by pro-free market business and civil society national bodies to work for
a non-racial, free and prosperous South Africa.
As a policy organisation it promotes sound economic policies and the principles
of good law. As a think tank it seeks and puts forward solutions to some of the country’s most pressing problems: unemployment, poverty, growth, education, health care, electricity supply, and more. The FMF was instrumental in the post-apartheid negotiations and directly influenced the Constitutional Commission to include the property
rights clause: a critical cornerstone of economic freedom.

FMF launches Economic Freedom of the World annual report

On Tuesday, 19 September 2023, the Free Market Foundation (FMF) will launch the Economic Freedom of the World (EFW) annual report during a livestream event.

During the livestream, David Ansara, CEO of the FMF, will unpack the methodology as well as findings of the report with FMF Associate, Neil Emerick, who has contributed to the underlying software of the EFW annual report dating back decades.

The Fraser Institute in Canada publishes the EFW on an annual basis to track the levels of economic freedom around the world. The FMF is the South African partner in the EFW network.

South Africa’s ranking on the EFW is expected to remain in the bottom half of the Index, as it has done consistently since 2010.

The media are invited to join the livestream on YouTube.

Proceedings will commence as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 19 September 2023
Time: 12h00 – 13h00
