SA robust despite the enemies of prosperity
IT IS amazing how unco-operative citizens are when their government wants to destroy the economy. No matter how hard the government tries, subjects carry on producing and exchanging wealth. Getting people to be poor turns out to be very difficult.
But give credit where it is due. Our disproportionately influential communists and socialists, who infiltrated and subverted the African National Congress (ANC), got our government to reverse its commitment to economic freedom and prosperity. Nelson Mandela’s ANC, on the economic freedom index, took us from apartheid’s 5.78 (1985) to the ANC’s 7.09 in 2000 (unfree is zero; free is 10). Mandela thought it "imperative that we open our markets".
