South Africa needs to wake up to the potential hazards posed by the unemployment crisis before it is too
late. Chronic unemployment strips people of dignity and self-respect. In
economic terms it marginalises and excludes people who might otherwise
be part of the job and wealth creation process. Hopefully, this book will
have the desired effect, and government and trade union officials, when
contemplating changes to labour policy, will stop ignoring the heartbreaking
personal cost of unemployment.
