On 24 October 2018, the Department of Transport published the revised draft Economic Regulation of Transport Bill, 2018. The Bill seeks inter alia to “consolidate the economic regulation of transport within a single framework and policy”. The FMF is concerned that this Bill serves no other purpose than to add extra layers of bureaucracy and red tape to the transportation industry, during a time when South Africa is experiencing near-zero economic growth.
